A person’s home is often an important representation of their lives. Many people consider their lawn as a way to make a first impression on people in their neighborhood or visiting their home. There’s a certain level of pride needed to keep your lawn looking its absolute best. That also means you need a good lawn mower.

The lawn mower is the key to a great looking lawn. Lawns continue to grow constantly. It only takes a week for it to look unkempt and overgrown. Each size and style of lawn can make use of a different kind of lawn mower. No matter what kind of lawn it is, there’s a mower that fits it like a glass slipper. There’s plenty of choice for people when it comes to how the lawnmower is powered as well.

Stand Up Mowers

Stand up mowers are the most common type out there. They are designed to be pushed or moved by a person who is controlling them from behind. The original forms were rotary and cylindrical lawn mowers. They rotated through the power of human movement. Simple gasoline and electric lawnmowers are the most common used these days. Electric ones are either powered by batteries or a series of extension cords.

There are also self-propelled mowers. These mowers will push the rear wheels, meaning that the user only has to control direction. They can also turn off the propulsion to allow for manual control as well, so there’s nothing lost. Stand up lawn mowers are the go to option for most small and medium sized lawns. They can work larger lawns too when necessary.

Robot Mowers

If you’re someone who likes to have a great lawn, but doesn't want to constantly be putting in the effort, then the robot lawn mower may be the right choice for you. Many people know about robot vacuums. Not as many people realize the same concept has been adapted for lawn mowers. They function in the same method as their vacuum cousins. These lawn mowers will patrol a lawn to cut it, keeping track of where they have been. This is after they discover the outer boundaries of the lawn as well as all of the potential curves and obstructions that are in the middle of it.

There’s a downside to robot mowers. They aren’t particularly large and can struggle with grass that is very high. Therefore they need to be used consistently without a large gap in the middle. It can also take a while to finish the lawn with multiple trips back to dock and get power.

Riding Mowers

For people who describe their lawns in fractions of an acre or more, then a riding mower is probably a good idea. Riding mowers are exactly what they sound like. You drive the lawnmower around the lawn while it cuts. Riding mowers are large and powerful. They will cut a large swath through tall grass. The most difficult part of a riding mower is the turns. Some modern mowers are built in with a zero movement turning radius. This allows the mower to turn on the spot, ensuring even lines and easy mowing.

Many riding mowers are more than just regular mowers. They can be fitted with extra attachments to perform a multitude of different tasks. Having a riding lawn mower which can also function as a mini bulldozer is certainly a useful item.
